El Tercero

Featuring...

Kristina Marino: http://thedowntowndiaries.blogspot.com/

This special lady was my first subscriber and so has inspired the material for my third blog.  I was asked to design the tattoo lining the right side of her torso.  The three flowers represent Marino's grandma, mother, and herself (daffodils and one marigold) and the three hearts are the women's favorite colors.

No hay mal que por bien no venga.

El Segundo

Ink and Watercolor, 8 x 10, 2009.

A self portrait done near the end of the first year in Grad School.  The quote below by the painter Olaf Palm describes well the process of creating this piece.

Olaf:

“Painting is hard...you can’t ignore that. Just once in a while does it go along with real pleasure...You get tense, impatient, disgusted...Then afterward, you have this image before you and hopefully, you can say, ‘Yes, that’s how it is.  How incredibly subtle.’ Now you turn it over to the others, unless it’s very private. You hope the others can see the magic in it.”

-Excerpt from Palm’s journal, 1970

I would like to share my art in a simple, not over thought, manner. Thus, my first blog ever.  If you have any questions feel more than free to ask.  Comments, criticisms, compliments: are very much welcome.  I chose the first image because the talented writer Jen Page is heading back to the West Coast.  The second because it reminds me of peeling back our layers, a theme that his been prevalent in my life this year.  There will be some going back to past images as well as the inclusion of new images in this here post.
